Five years ago, on a dreary midsummer day, I took the biggest step yet in our family business. FCG had just acquired a huge new store on 104 Worcester Street in Natick. The new showroom had been freshly painted. New carpet had been installed and the store was ready for a vast new kind of inventory of consignment furniture.
My staff and I were like runners poised at the start of a big race: excited, nervous and ready to blast into this new adventure. We’d begun to develop an expertise in a new and thrilling trend in furniture, that is, Euro contemporary. We studied all the top brands: Holly Hunt, Dessin Fournir, Minton-Spidell, Guy Chaddock, and Edward Farrell.
Their furniture was made with the highest quality leathers, fabrics and design. Boston’s top interior designers were embracing the trend and so were homeowners. Luxury contemporary furniture was hot, and we wanted to be the top contender to resell it when homeowners decided to move or downsize.
But first …
FCG had to close our store in Chestnut Hill, which was a big relief. The Natick store was five times the size of Chestnut Hill. In Natick, we’d have a roomy loading dock instead of trying to move furniture in and out of the store from the curb of a busy street. Natick had 40 parking spaces instead of 3. In Natick, we’d have room to store and display thousands of pieces of furniture instead of the 50 we squeezed into Chestnut Hill.
In every way, it was a big leap forward for FCG.
This week we are celebrating our 5th year in Natick. Walking around our showroom today, I realized with satisfaction that it is exactly what we hoped for when we took the keys five years ago. Earlier this week, we’d gotten a large shipment of spectacular contemporary furnishings from a loft in the Seaport section of Boston. We’d also gotten a shipment of custom traditional beautiful pieces from a brownstone on Beacon Hill.
Come visit our Natick showroom today and see how the world’s best luxury contemporary furniture blends perfectly with quality traditional furniture. We’re very proud that Furniture Consignment Gallery is New England’s leader in selling pre-owned luxury contemporary and traditional home furnishings.
