Happy Anniversary, FCG Natick!

Furniture Consignment Gallery opened its doors 33 years ago in our current Hanover location. It was 1993. Jurassic Park was the blockbuster movie of the year, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” was everywhere, and nobody had ever heard of a podcast, streaming service—or whatever “6-7” means.

But in many ways, the story of the Furniture Consignment Gallery you know today really began in 2016. 

That was the year we took a giant leap from our second location, a boutique storefront in Chestnut Hill, to what we saw as the furniture mecca of Greater Boston: Route 9 in Natick.

We knew that if FCG wanted to become a serious player in the Boston furniture market, if we wanted to attract exceptional furniture, work with leading interior designers, and serve some of the finest homes and estates throughout New England -- we needed to be on Route 9.

It was a move that could propel FCG to new heights. It also could have sunk a steady, successful business.

We had projections. We had spreadsheets. We had a business plan. All those things said the move should work.

But you never really know until you know.

What gave us the confidence to take the chance was the business itself. It wasn't whispering to us that it wanted to grow. It was screaming.

So we made the move.

And then we had to earn it.

It took time for new customers to understand what they were seeing inside our Natick showroom. They had to trust that preowned furniture could be exceptional furniture. They had to trust our pricing, our standards, and our service.

We earned that trust one customer, one consignor, one designer, and one piece of furniture at a time.

Slowly, FCG settled into the rhythm of Route 9 and became part of the incredible collection of furniture and home-design businesses that make it one of New England’s great furniture shopping corridors.

A lot has changed since we first opened in Hanover in 1993. Blockbuster Video disappeared. Movies gave way to streaming series. TED Talks and podcasts became things. Phones became cameras, maps, wallets and, apparently, something teenagers use to invent new words designed specifically to confuse their parents.

FCG changed too.

Today we are 33 years in business, 13 years in Plymouth, 10 years in Natick and 5 years in Burlington.

Ten years ago, moving to Natick was a bet on where we believed Furniture Consignment Gallery could go.

A decade later, we're incredibly grateful to the customers, consignors, designers, employees and friends who proved that bet was worth making.

Here's to 10 years on Route 9—and to whatever comes through our doors next.
